Sex+: Methinks if you want to promote veganism, you go about it by helping to create more affordable food sources instead of...
ugh. this is one of the things that really bugs me about where i live. in san francisco there are tons of vegans/vegetarians that get off on feelings of moral superiority. south park had it right in the episode about bay area people loving the smell of their own farts. really, all that “superiority” people feel for being vegan is just a clusterfuck of their own privilege.
like, oh, you only buy your food from the farmers market? you can afford to spend $3 on a peach? good for you, but don’t you dare go shaming other people for not doing the same. until you actually care about how food politics are heavily tied with class (and how class is tied to both race & physical health) and are doing something about that, I don’t see your promotion of veganism as anything beyond pseudo-political masturbation.
One of the things that really bugs me are ignorant people who think all vegans buy their food from the farmer’s market and are affluent. Stop erasing lower-income vegans, because we do fucking exist. Stop generalizing an extremely diverse group of individuals by perpetuating the distorted stereotype that every single vegan is some stuck-up yuppie white kid using veganism as a way to flaunt their privilege. That might be the case in your specific location, and it might apply to the handful of vegans you’ve encountered, but it doesn’t take much common sense to realize that this is offensive to those who don’t fit your narrow and biased description of veganism.
I hate that people make the assumption that vegans of color don’t exist, and when they assume that all vegans have tons of cash flying out of their ass.
I asked someone today why she said Laci Green is speciest… If that person is reading this feel free to discard that question, I know now.
I get really pissed when people say I’m “spreading white privilege” by promoting veganism.
Because I’m not fucking white.
Or privileged. At least not when it comes to money.
And the people who promote veganism and shaming meat eating aren’t doing it “to be smug”. If they were they would not want other people being vegan because then they would no longer be “special”.
So what if they’re proud? They should be because they left a shitty system. Plus vegans get bashed so much they need pride so they don’t end up hating themselves.
”I don’t see your promotion of veganism as anything beyond pseudo-political masturbation”
So when people say 70 percent of our worlds food resources are spent on animals rather than humans or that we have 10 billion animals from livestock in America alone to waste resources on they’re just doing it to be smug?
Fuck you Laci. Consider any support I had for you gone.
